#404 – A History of the Catholic Church – On Pilgrimage

Pilgrimage mania took hold in the 4th century as devotion to the saints increased. Increased pilgrims also led to the development of an infrastructure to support them. However, not everyone felt that increased desire for pilgrimage was a good thing.
