You can get Patti Mansfield’s book on the beginnings of the Charismatic Renewal that Fr. Michael recommended at Amazon.

Catholic Podcasts Update

The new site is up over at catholicpodcasts.info

I hope to add some more to the site, but all of the Catholic podcasts listed in the links section of this site have been moved to the new site with even more podcasts noted as well as descriptions and other information. The main purpose of catholicpodcasts.info will be to help others find podcasts of interest and keep people up to date with developments in Catholic podcasting.

Comments on the Tenth Episode

The tenth episode of Catholic:Under The Hood has been mentioned by First Things in response to my statements on the relationship of faith and the Internet. I have decided to put forward my own statement up on the Friary Notes site since I think that it lends itself more easily to comments than a mention in a future podcast. Feel free to read my words and comment if you wish.

Catholic Podcasts

I am in the process of moving my list of Catholic podcasts to another website and expanding upon it with better descriptions so as to make it easier for people to find podcasts of interest. The new site will be Catholic Podcasts. So, if you want to update links, go ahead. I’ll warn everybody before I take down the list of Catholic podcasts off of this page and replace it with a permanent link to the new site.

#12 – Stories, St. Nicholas and Song

In this week’s episode we have a great interview with Fr. Brian Cavanaugh, TOR about the importance of story in our lives and in the spread of the Gospel. Fr. Brian has published several books with the stories he has collected called The Sower Seeds and a book on the Miracle of the Poinsettia. He runs a website that also includes stories and words of inspiration called Apple Seeds. Check them out!

Fr. Brian also mentioned a book by Fr. William Bausch called “Storytelling: Imagination and Faith” which can be purchased at Amazon.com.

The other books that Fr. Brian mentions – Chicken Soup for the Soul, Book of Virtues, The Moral Compass.

Russell W. Conwell’s “Acres of Diamonds” can be found at the Temple University site.

Fr. Brian mentioned the National Storytelling Network.

We will also hear about the interesting tradition of the Companions of Saint Nicholas, especially the Krampus who ensures that children behave themselves during the Advent season. For more information about the Krampus check out the Wikipedia article or this other site on Santa’s companions.

Music for this week’s episode comes from Podsafe Music. Our song is “In The Bleak Midwinter” sung by Allison Crowe.

For further information on St. Nicholas and celebrating his feastday in the Eastern Church, check out From Advent to the Presentation, especially the December 6th episode. Be sure to put in a pin in the Frappr map and if you haven’t already during the month of December – please vote for Catholic:Under The Hood at Podcast Alley. The votes help the podcast move up in the rankings and more people come to learn about it. It would mean a lot, thanks!

#10 – Tenth Episode!

Hard to believe were already at the tenth episode! Glory to God – here’s to another ten.

This week we start a new segment in Catholic:Under The Hood looking at famous Catholics in history beginning with Servant of God Reverend Prince Dimitrius Augustine Gallitzin. Father Gallitzin has a special connection with me as he helped found the city of Loretto, Pennsylvania where the motherhouse of my order is located. He did an amazing amount of labor for the Lord and continues to serve as a model for priests today.

We also take another trip to the Icon Corner and look at the icon of the Feast of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple in honor of the feast that will be celebrated on the 21st.

Finally, I add some of my own commentary about the nature and future of Catholic podcasting.

Links to material in this week’s podcast.

For further information about Servant of God Dimitrius Gallitzin, check out this site which is seeking his canonization – Official Site:Canonization of Prince Dmitrius Gallitzin

Here you can find the Protoevangelium of St. James

In the podcast, I played the song “Safe” by Amy Dalley which is available via Podsafe Music.
