My parents are from Slovakia (right next door to Austria) and they always had pussywillows instead of palms at Easter. The reason for this is that most of Slovakia is made up of pretty small and isolated villages and it would have been very hard to get palms many years ago when they were growing up. It’s a Slovak tradition that still carries on today.
